Groweastafrica.org is improving the lives of poor rural farmers and internally displaced people (IDP) in the rural Burji District of Ethiopia. We help IDP families grow vegetable, Tef, and quinoa and distribute goats to rural poor families.
In 2018 we expanded the vegetable and quinoa farm by 2.5 hectares to serve more families. On this new plot, we installed new drip irrigation powered using a solar system. Using irrigation we can plant vegetable year around.
The IDP ladies planted a variety of quinoa, tef, and nutritional vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, chard, peppers, and onion. The 2018 Fall harvest of quinoa and tef was abundant. We will use part of the crop as the seed for the next growing season, and distribute the remaining among the families for food.
The following short videos show the growing and harvest of tef and quinoa. The vegetables are still growing.
