Lack of access to health services is a major life and death issue facing poor rural communities. Grow East Africa, GEA, and the communities we serve have identified poor health service as a major problem that needs urgent attention. For example, the Burji district in Southern Ethiopia with a population of 156,000 has no hospitals and only 3 sparsely resourced clinics. GEA is committed to partnering with all actors and contributors to:
- Strengthen partnership with health ministries and other health care providers and support health training of local school graduates. Graduates from such training will be available and eager to support local health institutions. GEA will reach out to national and international organizations to support the training of local youth through volunteerism of health experts and similar creative means.
- Improve existing healthcare facilities, and expand services to make safe healthcare delivery accessible to all. This effort will be accomplished through collaboration with the local authorities and non-governmental organizations.
- Address means to reduce water-borne, vector-borne, and other preventable diseases currently afflicting large sections of the community, the number of children and adults falling sick or dying from drinking unclean water and other illnesses through education (good hygiene).
